Rewiring and lighting during a renovation

New wiring and lighting in an older home: cables and boxes prepared in the walls and ceilings, and a finished hallway with recessed spots.

During a renovation the walls and ceilings are open, which makes it the perfect moment to renew the electrical installation and prepare the lighting exactly where you want it.

Wiring in walls and ceilings

New partition walls get boxes for switches and sockets before the plasterboard is finished. In the ceiling, cables run between the battens to the positions of the new lights. Old wiring is replaced, so the whole installation is safe and up to date.

The finished result

After plastering and painting, the switches, sockets and lights are fitted. In this hallway, recessed spots give even light along the full length, without visible cables or fittings hanging from the ceiling.

Plan the lighting first

The positions of lights, switches and sockets should be decided before the walls are closed. That is what a lighting plan is for. See our lighting plan service and the full renovation service.
