Paintwork is the part of a renovation everyone sees. A good painter spends most of the time on preparation, which is why a professional finish lasts much longer than a quick coat.
Interior painting
- Walls and ceilings: filling cracks, sanding, priming and two coats of wall paint.
- Doors, frames and skirting: degreasing, sanding and finishing with a hard-wearing lacquer.
- Period details: cornices, panelled doors and staircases in older homes need patience and a fine brush.
- After a renovation: new plasterwork needs the right primer before it can be painted. See plastering.
Exterior painting
Exterior woodwork protects your home against rain and wind. We check frames, sills, fascias and doors, repair damaged wood, and apply a paint system that suits the material and the exposure. In coastal areas such as Scheveningen and Kijkduin near Loosduinen the salt air makes regular maintenance especially important.
Colours in period homes
Many homes in the older parts of The Hague have a traditional colour scheme on the facade. In a protected cityscape, such as parts of Duinoord, the colour of window frames and doors can be subject to rules. We help you choose colours that suit the street and the house.
Painting as part of a bigger project
Painting is often the final step of a full renovation or comes after new window frames. When we coordinate the whole project, the painter can plan around the other trades and nothing has to be redone.
Lower VAT on labour
For homes older than two years, a reduced VAT rate currently applies to the labour costs of painting and plastering. Materials are charged at the standard rate. We show labour and materials separately in the quote, so you can see the difference.
Frequently asked questions
How often should exterior woodwork be painted?
That depends on the paint system, the side of the house and the weather it faces. As a rule of thumb, check exterior woodwork every year and expect repainting roughly every five to eight years. Near the sea, maintenance is often needed sooner.
Do you also repair rotten wood before painting?
Yes. Small rotten spots are repaired with wood filler or by replacing a piece of wood. If a frame is too far gone, we advise on replacing it.
Can I stay at home while you paint inside?
Yes. We work room by room, cover floors and furniture, and use low-odour water-based paints wherever possible.
Can you paint high facades?
Yes, using ladders, a scaffold or a work platform depending on the height and access. A scaffold on the public road may need a permit from the municipality.
