The Hague calls itself the international city of peace and justice, and for good reason. Thousands of people work at international courts, tribunals, EU agencies, research organisations and embassies. Many of them buy a home here, often an older one, and need a contractor who works in English and understands the rhythm of international careers.
Where international staff in The Hague work
The Hague hosts organisations such as:
- The Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), between the Zeeheldenkwartier, Archipelbuurt and Statenkwartier
- The International Criminal Court (ICC) and NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), near the dunes between Scheveningen and Benoordenhout
- Europol, Eurojust and the OPCW, in the international zone near the World Forum and the Statenkwartier
- The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and the IRMCT, around the Churchillplein
- The European Patent Office (EPO) in Rijswijk
- More than a hundred embassies and residences, many in Benoordenhout, Willemspark and the Archipelbuurt
We are an independent contractor and not affiliated with any of these organisations; we mention them only to describe the neighbourhoods where many international staff live.
Planned around your posting
International careers come with fixed dates: a start date, home leave, a contract renewal or the end of a posting. We plan the work around them:
- Before you move in: renovate between the transfer of the property and your arrival, so you move into a finished home. Read buying and renovating a home as an international civil servant.
- While you are abroad: we manage the project and keep you informed. Read renovating your home in The Hague while you are posted abroad.
- When your posting ends: prepare your home for tenants or for sale. Read preparing your Hague home for rental.
What we do
From a quick refresh to a complete renovation: full renovations, bathrooms and toilets, extensions, roof extensions and dormers, window frames, painting, sustainable upgrades and garden landscaping.
Why it works for international clients
- English from start to finish: site visit, quote, planning, updates and invoices.
- One point of contact who coordinates every trade.
- Clear agreements in writing, with a fixed price or on an hourly basis, as you prefer.
- Local knowledge of the neighbourhoods where international staff live, from period townhouses in the Statenkwartier to villas in Wassenaar.
