Insulation and underfloor heating go together: a well-insulated home can be heated at a low temperature, which is exactly what a heat pump needs. During a renovation, when walls and floors are open, this is the most efficient moment to do both.
Wall and ceiling insulation
Many older homes in The Hague have solid walls without a cavity. They can be insulated on the inside, with insulation between timber battens or with insulation boards, followed by a vapour barrier and a new wall finish. The same applies to ceilings under a cold attic or roof.
Underfloor heating
Underfloor heating pipes are laid in a spiral pattern on an insulated floor and then covered with a screed. The whole floor becomes a large, gentle radiator. It works perfectly with a heat pump and leaves the walls free of radiators.
The result
Warmer rooms, no cold walls, lower energy use and a home that is ready for a heat pump.
